Singapore Happens, Circular Road
The lesser known back lanes of Circular Road
are tucked behind the main street, where thousands congregate each day to eat, drink and socialise. Commonly a place where motorcycles are parked, the place is sterile and void of life as people have little intention of hanging around.
Hence, we hope
to transform this under-utilised space into one that is full of vibrancy and life. The murals will also add colours and brighten up the otherwise dull areas. At the same time, this provides us the opportunity to collaborate and support homegrown talents as they continue to build their portfolio in the art scene.
Collaborating with a team of homegrown artists – Joyotee Ray Chaudhury, Nivedita Kesavan and Paroma Ray, we brought new life to the back lanes of Circular Road by completing a set of four murals titled The River Flows.
The artists wanted to portray the journey of Singapore River,
the River as it’s fondly called, through the various periods of time. Through the mural, the artists used symbols such as Otters, Clouds and Women to highlight the individuality of Singapore.
As one observes the murals, they will realise that each wall progressively shows Singapore transitioning towards modernity.
